Wishing I Was Home Gas Mask.

Wishing I was home is a piece that is reflective of the past and relates a little to the Covid-19 situation of today. Taking something that is a harsh looking item such as a gas mask and adding something delicate to it to change its perspective was my aim for this piece. This piece is an appropriation work compromising of found objects and finding other objects to complete a piece of work.
The gas mask represents the soldier in the trenches, the dandelions represent the wishes to return home, the dandelions also represent the wife waiting for her husband to come back home as she stitches. The mask is displayed upon a display head covered with hessian to represent the sandbags found in the trenches all mounted upon a 1930’s battered copy of All’s Quite on the Western Front.

Cross stitched appropriated motor cycle helmet. Using a damaged motorcycle helmet I wanted to create something a little more unusual with it. I started by cross stitching into the visor; the plan was to create skull eyes to look as if a skeleton was driving the motorbike but the more I look at it the more I see panda eyes. So the piece has now been re named Love, Death and Panda’s. The cross stitching passes through the visor with over 2000 pre drilled holes.
